Over the last few years, I have been developing a VR music app on the side while pursuing my Ph.D. My area of studies is in digital and physical musical interfaces, especially those that deal with 3D audio. My goal is to create an environment where anyone can make and learn about music. If the project were developed fully, it could also become a tool that serious composers could use to score music for cinema, where surround sound is diegetic (ie. part of the scene). Currently, the project is at its infancy and due to COVID, we cannot access the VR lab which we need in order to develop. Luckily we have a few videos which should give you the sense of what we have so far. The name synth-esthesia is a play on words. Synthesizers are digital musical instruments developed in the 1970s and popularized more recently with the popularity of electronic dance music. Synaesthesia is a neurological condition in which information meant to stimulate one of your senses stimulates several.
